Rodent Control

Here at Insecta X we take rodent infestation very seriously.
Rats have caused more human suffering and economic damage than any other vertebrate pest. Statistics indicate that every year rats destroy approximately 20 percent of the world’s food supply by food consumption or contamination. Rats and mice also pose human health risks by transmitting diseases such as hantavirus, salmonella, leptosirosis – a fatal disease, and trichinosis. The predominant rat species in Connecticut is the Norway rat, commonly known as the brown rat, house rat, and sewer rat.

The predominant mouse species in Connecticut is the White Footed Deer Mouse, who is the number one carrier of deer ticks that spread lyme disease throughout our region (Please see Insecta X's exclusive Tick Program).

Mice and Rats General Characteristics:

• Prefer living in colonies where food and warmth are abundant
• Mark areas with urine – gland secretions
• Poor vision, they prefer to travel in strait unobstructed paths; mature mice can not clearly see beyond 6 .5 inches
• Use whiskers to sense touch
• Very acute hearing
• Can survive without water if necessary
• Capable of squeezing through an opening slightly larger than ¼ inch in diameter
